I finally managed to sneak down the Kukui Trail and found some nice clouds here at Waimea Canyon. Then the sun broke through clouds and cast some cool and interesting light over the landscape. After reviewing this photo, I wished I had taken out the 70-200 to pick the landscape apart piece by piece, but alas, Live and learn. :)

Well I managed to test negative after my five days isolation in Maura's apartment in Italy, so now we're mountain biking in Valle Maira. the combination of wild flowers and dramatic mountains is stunning. My legs are struggling with so many steep climbs and never ending ascents, but the rewards and downhills are well worth the effort. Simply Beautiful is by Al Green
I managed to visit Kangaroo Island during my trip to Adelaide for the opening of the ANZANG exhibition at the SA Museum which includes my "Stormlight & Stardust" image. This is from a bay on the island being belted by storms over the Southern Ocean. Next stop from the edge here is Antarctica! It's been a long while since I've been able to shoot any seascapes, a conscious effort to expand the portfolio in other areas.

On how I managed to diffuse a potentially explosive situation.
I was sat on a bench approximately 50 metres across from this family and noticed their reflections in the puddle. I took about five or six shots and noticed with each one the boy with his hands in his pockets became more and more agitated.
He eventually marched over to me and demanded to know why I was taking photographs of his family.
I smiled politely and assured him I wasn't taking photographs of his family, I was taking photographs of the puddle.
He thought for a moment, I could see he was in a mucking fuddle, then he said, Oh, that's alright then and calmly walked away.
As did I before the penny dropped!
This part of the Pucks Glen path takes the walker towards a rocky outcrop that contains what looks like a face ... can you see it?.

We both managed to get out together today, first time in 2 weeks that Daniel has left the house, which was great, really good to see it lifted his spirits. Hopefully do it more often. We met with a friend and had a coffee at Hardwick park and fed the birds, then went to Fishburn airfield and sat outside plane watching. Had a mini-shoot while we were there. Have a wonderful evening all. ❤️
Managed to get this shot of the iconic gate when there was almost no one around. It pays to get up early!!!
I somehow managed to frequently pass close to this spot for maybe 20+ years before realising there was a good photograph to be had. Strangely enough, exactly the same thing happened with another image I posted on Flickr just this morning. I guess, sometimes one doesn't need to search far afield - just stop close by and look carefully!
This is a shot of the south end of Loch Eck taken from a hilltop overlooking Stratheck. From this viewpoint I can see 2 forest tracks that I regularly walk/cycle and also one of my favourite roads to drive :)

Guillemot /Murre - Uria aalge
The common murre or common guillemot (Uria aalge) is a large auk. It is also known as the thin-billed murre in North America. It has a circumpolar distribution, occurring in low-Arctic and boreal waters in the North Atlantic and North Pacific. It spends most of its time at sea, only coming to land to breed on rocky cliff shores or islands.
Common murres have fast direct flight but are not very agile. They are more manoeuvrable underwater, typically diving to depths of 30–60 m (98–197 ft). Depths of up to 180 m (590 ft) have been recorded.
Common murres breed in colonies at high densities. Nesting pairs may be in bodily contact with their neighbours. They make no nest; their single egg is incubated on a bare rock ledge on a cliff face. Eggs hatch after ~30 days incubation. The chick is born downy and can regulate its body temperature after 10 days. Some 20 days after hatching the chick leaves its nesting ledge and heads for the sea, unable to fly, but gliding for some distance with fluttering wings, accompanied by its male parent. Chicks are capable of diving as soon as they hit the water. The female stays at the nest site for some 14 days after the chick has left.
Both male and female common murres moult after breeding and become flightless for 1–2 months. In southern populations they occasionally return to the nest site throughout the winter. Northern populations spend the winter farther from their colonies.
Some individuals in the North Atlantic, known as "bridled guillemots", have a white ring around the eye extending back as a white line. This is not a distinct subspecies, but a polymorphism that becomes more common the farther north the birds breed.
The common murre nests in densely packed colonies (known as "loomeries"), with up to twenty pairs occupying one square metre at peak season.[citation needed] Common murres do not make nests and lay their eggs on bare rock ledges, under rocks, or the ground. They first breed at four to nine years old, but most individuals recruit into the breeding population at ages six or seven, although birds may disperse (permanently depart their natal colony) if space is limited. Annual survival probability for birds aged 6–15 is 0.895, and average lifespan is about 20 years. Breeding success increases with age up to age 9-10 to 0.7 fledglings per pair, then declines in the oldest age birds, perhaps indicating reproductive senesence.
High densities mean that birds are close contact with neighbouring breeders. Common murres perform appeasement displays more often at high densities and more often than razorbills.
Allopreening is common both between mates and between neighbours. Allopreening helps to reduce parasites, and it may also have important social functions. Frequency of allopreening a neighbour correlates well with current breeding success.
Allopreening may function as a stress-reducer; ledges with low levels of allopreening show increased levels of fighting and reduced breeding success.
Alloparenting behaviour is frequently observed. Non-breeding and failed breeders show great interest in other chicks, and will attempt to brood or feed them. This activity is more common as the chicks get older and begin to explore their ledge. There has also been a record of a pair managing to raise two chicks. Adults that have lost chicks or eggs will sometimes bring fish to the nest site and try to feed their imaginary chick.
At time of extreme food stress, the social activity of the breeding ledge can break down.
On the Isle of May colony in 2007, food availability was low. Adults spent more of their time-budget foraging for their chicks and had to leave them unattended at times. Unattended chicks were attacked by breeding neighbour which often led to their deaths. Non-breeding and failed breeders continued to show alloparental care.
In areas such as Newfoundland, the birds, along with the related thick-billed murre, are referred to as 'turrs' or 'tuirs', and are consumed. The meat is dark and quite oily, due to the birds' diet of fish. Eggs have also been harvested.
Eggers from San Francisco took almost half a million eggs a year from the Farallon Islands in the mid-19th century to feed the growing city.

Managed to stop the car without the hawk immediately flying away - - a rare occurrence. Sun was pretty bright so a lot more dark shadows than you would like but otherwise a clear shot even after some cropping - - I'm glad my lens is finally sharp again after another round of micro-adjustments.

Managed a quick shot of the male Chaffinch that's been visiting our garden over the last couple of days. It only stays at the far back of the garden though. It’s perched on the shallow water trough. Taken through the window.

First one that I have managed to photograph in West Somerset (Exmoor) . Probably a day tripper from the wetlands site at Steart.
Managed to get another one of those colds. So not much time to take pictures right now. But I'm heading down to the south coast at the weekend, so hopefully I will be able to get some different shots.
I managed to capture this Fulmar as it flew to its nest in a shady gorge which provided this lovely dark background.

Falls of Shin is a waterfall on the River Shin, in northern Scotland, near the villages of Bonar Bridge and Lairg.
Falls of Shin had a popular visitor centre, managed as part of Balnagown Estates, a company owned by former Harrods boss Mohamed Al-Fayed. This included a restaurant, a branch of Harrods, and a waxwork model of Al-Fayed. The visitor centre was destroyed by a fire in May 2013. Balnagown Estates have since been working with the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust to develop a new visitor attraction. In May 2017, the new visitor centre opened following the successful construction carried out by William Gray Construction. The opening event was dubbed "Celebra-Shin". The café is currently operated by Mac & Wild- a company created by Andy Waugh and Calum MacKinnon with 2 restaurants in London and Falls of Shin being their third.
The Falls of Shin were dynamited to improve the salmon access.
Aside from the Salmon Viewing Platform, the site also comprises a Mini Golf Course, Woodland Walks and a large Children's Playpark.

Managing a nest is challenging and the parents are regularly making flights to catch more insects and food. Here one of them fed some food to its chicks in the nest and is back another round. They are such efficient creatures that it appears that they don't take any rest at all. I still don't know if there are any differentiating marks that can help in identifying each swift uniquely.
The shot was incredibly challenging though due to the birds highly unpredictable flight pattern. I finally managed to get a decent shot. I shot this while it flew out of its nest under the bridge.

I had to make this shot quickly because I was illegally parked in front of the Falls! So I quickly ran to the railing where some nice Indian couple asked me to take their picture ☺️. I think they were newlyweds.
I managed to take a few pictures with my Canon! But ran back to my car to grab my Nikon to take a couple more pictures! Meanwhile, Justin is sitting in the car waiting for me this whole time! Friday was a snow day because of the shitty snowstorm we had!
Total letdown! Anyway, it was fun taking the pictures!
I thought that I managed in this picture using Poser and doing a lot of morphing to capture a very good likeness of Vampirella. Her expression says so much, She's looking forward to her night out . : )
The chipmunks decided that the black-eyed susan blooms were quite tasty, as did several other critters. They managed to strip almost every single bloom in about 3 days.

Finally managed to get out and about and take a few photos to start this 100x project. My son liked this iPhone processed shot better than all the others and yes, for those of you who put up with my 100x last year, it's those bridges again!
Managed to stop a take a patch of daisies that has started to cover the bank of the roadside on the way to my dads a couple of weeks back.
Finally managed to get close up to our rather large visitor to Attenborough in the lovely afternoon winter sun, it's been several years since I have had the chance to photograph a Great White Egret and the size of the these birds still amazes me, when standing upright they actually look down on the passing swans not many birds can do that, lets hope it stays around for much longer.
After 5 years of trying, I finally managed to capture an image of a Common Snipe in full wingspread. These cryptic birds can often be tricky to spot amongst the tall grasses in Hong Kong’s wetlands and riverine environments — and flush easily, too — meaning this shot had frustrated me until recently.

NOTE: Aside from the Common Snipe, Hong Kong is home to 2 other species of Snipe that are usually found here in winter, including the Pintail Snipe (Gallinago stenura) and Swinhoe’s Snipe (Gallinago megala). As the Common Snipe is most locally abundant, and because the three species are “not safely separable in the field (*),” I’ve gone ahead and assumed that this bird is a Common Snipe. If anyone has any additional feedback, feel free to let me know.

I just managed to squeezed both of them in at prime focus on my C11 telescope. However, I found wrestling with trying to remove the light pollution gradients quite a challenge on this occasion.

Wingardium Leviosa. It was the first spell she learned and, as it turns out, is one of her best spells. At first she could barely lift anything, or everything would backfire. Now? Now she could pull a person up by their clothing or move an object from across the room. Still, this didn’t mean she didn’t have to practice.
“Wingardium Leviosa,” she said quietly to herself and smiled as her books and papers lifted up around her.
Managed a trip to the Yorkshire Dales for these Turtle Doves before I disappear for a few days. They kept there distance, so unfortunately they are large crops.

We managed to find several moose in the usual places around Anchorage. But they were all in heavily forested areas so I didn't manage many full body shots. So when that happens, I go to head shot portrait mode.
We managed to see a bit of sunshine on our last Norfolk trip and did a short walk from Morston Quay to Blakeney Quay.

We finally made it ! \o/
After all those months, and constant talks, we finally managed to meet inworld and take this photo together. Which inspired our dear writer friend instantly. Here is the wonderfully creative story she imagined for it :
"A paw pats on the surface of my screen aggressively followed by an angry meow as I let the alarm keep going even after she hit snooze mode multiple times. I could hear her groaning after shoving me under the pillow (How rude!). She finally got up but forgot me under the pillow. Scanning her messages, I knew she was going on a weekend trip with two awesome friends who were also a badass couple. Love and respect surely conquers all when it is true.
Being shoved into her pockets was annoying and then kept on airplane mode through the duration of her plane ride. Apparently, giant heavy books get more attention during long flights. I guess because books release truth of the universe. Her friends met her at the airport and they honestly spent more than 20 minutes just giving each other greetings, welcomes, fuzzing overs and thank yous. Life just goes by so quickly that we have to pause and at least take the time to tell our friends how amazing they are, she so did right! (Wish I had friends...)
I was finally put to good use when she took photos of the scenery around and of herself with her friends. Memories that she will always be smiling about because they were built out of honesty, support and real care. They did a lot of activities! It all went so fast. Time was just rushing quickly and everyone was moving on with their lives. They first grabbed breakfast and then went to the town's square to check out some souvenirs. There was a museum there so they decided why not? After that, they set up for a hike up one of the mountains that had a small area for paragliding, My entire world just shook!
They had lunch in a restaurant overlooking the sea after that with no time to take food photos (How can this happen!) and then they chilled for awhile by taking a walk along the pier. She eventually didn't bother using me because she got something more bigger and hotter to take photos with. I was mostly inside her bag the entire duration while she enjoyed with her friends and Mr. DSLR.
There was a lot to do, places to visit, new experiences to discuss and life plans to share. The 3 of them just enjoyed talking about art, music, photographs and places. Work talk was saved for another time and the world was on the tip of their fingers! They had so many beautiful things to think about and do. I started releasing the notification sound but she only took me out for a second and put me on silent mode (How could she!? Not even on vibration!!). The first day was slowly coming to an end so they went back to their temporary 'home' to unwind from the long day.
When she finally remembered that I existed, she looked over at the messages and missed calls but only one message from another dear friend caught her attention. I could see how she raised an eyebrow and then called over the love birds to take a look with her. I didn't understand why the three of them seemed to laugh over whatever it was they were looking at.
"- Sana, sana, colita de rana" one said as the spanish saying goes. They got distracted then from laughing when I showed them that their restaurant reservation was confirmed!
I can't believe she threw me out of excitement and I could see the three of them doing some silly dances in celebration from having been flung into a soft couch. At least, I avoided a cracked screen... "
